Anti-Poverty

194th General Court (2025-2026)

An Act to Reduce Poverty By Expanding Child and Family Tax Credits (EITC bill)

This bill would expand and streamline existing refundable state tax credits to provide all households with a basic income.

An Act to Promote Economic Mobility Through Matched Savings

Families and individuals across the state struggle with building wealth and saving for the future. High cost of living and global inflation leave little for people with moderate to low incomes to save, purchase assets, and increase their financial stability. The Matched Savings bill creates a statewide program to help families amplify their savings with a match of up to 4:1. These matched savings can be used to put a downpayment on a home, improve credit, afford higher education, start a business, and reach other financial goals. These investments will provide for upward economic mobility for thousands of working Massachusetts residents.

An Act Establishing an Office of Economic Empowerment

Establishes the office of economic empowerment within the department of the state treasurer under Chapter 10, which would be under the supervision and control of the executive director. This legislation provides that the executive director shall be the executive and administrative head of the office, and may, subject to appropriation, appoint and remove employees to perform the duties of the office.
