Senator Eldridge, Representative Sena and Representative Cataldo Announce $145,000 Grant for Acton-Boxborough School District

Funding will allow school district to expand healthy, fresh meal offerings

Acton, MA – State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough), State Representative Danillo Sena (D-Acton) and State Representative Simon Cataldo (D-Acton) announced today that a grant amounting to approximately $145,000 has been secured for the Acton-Boxborough School District, which serves approximately 5,300 students across both towns.

The Food Security Infrastructure Grant (FSIG) Program seeks to ensure equitable food access for everybody in the Commonwealth by providing grants that help farmers, fishermen, and other local food producers be more interconnected with a strong, resilient food system. The grant issued to the Acton-Boxborough School District will be used to purchase equipment and infrastructure to increase scratch-cooking and improve storage capacity for the school meal program.

“The Acton-Boxborough School District impacts thousands of students from Pre-K to high school, and provides an essential program in its school meals program,” said Senator Eldridge. “The grant will allow the district to increase its overall capacity to provide meals — specifically in the amount of healthy, fresh meals that it can offer. This is a crucial service, and I’m very thankful to the EEA for approving this grant.”

“I am so glad that the Acton-Boxborough School District is receiving this grant,” said Representative Sena. “Every student deserves to have access to nutritious school meals, and I thank the EEA for their assistance in strengthening this meal program within the AB district."

“Ensuring that our students are fed nutritious meals is a key aspect of supporting their academic and personal growth,” said Representative Cataldo. “I’m thrilled that A-B students will benefit from the healthy, local food options that this grant will help supply.”
