Over $140,000 Awarded to Enhance Firefighter Safety and Equip Local Departments

BOSTON, MA –  State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough) announced today that fire departments across the district have been awarded grants through the Department of Fire Services (DFS) FY25 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant program. These funds, provided by the Healey-Driscoll administration and the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS), will enable local departments to enhance their safety capabilities by purchasing essential equipment and tools.

The FY25 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant program provides reimbursement to fire departments for essential items, including firefighter turnout gear, hoses, nozzles, communications equipment, and hand tools, among others. The program, which distributes more than $4.5 million in funding to 273 local fire departments, prioritizes equipment that helps departments meet current National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Adhering to these standards is essential to ensuring the safety of both firefighters and the communities they serve during emergencies.

In the Middlesex and Worcester districts, the following grants were awarded:

  • Town of Acton - $19,000.00

  • Town of Ayer - $14,885.00

  • Town of Boxborough - $15,236.74

  • Town of Hudson - $18,980.00

  • Town of Littleton - $15,449.69

  • City of Marlborough - $24,974.04

  • Town of Maynard - $15,221.99

  • Town of Southborough - $19,000.00

  • Town of Sudbury - $11,745.99

  • Town of Wayland - $9,845.99

The FY25 funding marks the final installment of this critical grant program, which was made possible by a five-year bond bill. Since its inception, the program has supported fire departments in acquiring over 100 types of essential equipment, ensuring alignment with industry standards and improving public safety across the Commonwealth.

“This funding reflects a strong commitment to supporting our firefighters, who put themselves at risk every day to protect our communities,” said Senator Eldridge. “The Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant program ensures that local fire departments have access to the tools and resources they need to perform their jobs effectively and safely. I want to thank DFS, EOPSS, and the Healey-Driscoll administration for their efforts to make this happen.”
