Senators Eldridge & Cronin, and Rep. Sena Announce $17.5K to Freedom's Way Heritage Association In Devens

Grant celebrates 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution

Devens, MA - State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough), State Senator John Cronin (D-Fitchburg) and State Representative Danillo Sena (D-Acton) are pleased to announce $17,500 in funding to the Freedom's Way Heritage Association through the Massachusetts 250 Grant Program.

The program was created to help commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and will help local communities and organizations preserve Revolutionary-era sites and artifacts, foster civic pride, and attract visitors, boosting local economies and showcasing historical landmarks.

These funds, which are required to be spent by June 2025, will go toward a project designing and disseminating marketing materials, including a six-page fold-out itinerary map titled “A Monumental Road Trip--Discovering the Past Through Monuments and Memorials.”

The marketing materials will attract more visitors to these sites, boosting local tourism and the economy. They will also offer a structured, accessible, and engaging way for a broader audience to explore and learn about key historical sites from the American Revolution.

“It’s important to invest in initiatives that celebrate and preserve our shared history, as they play a crucial role in strengthening our community and connecting us with our past,” said Senator Eldridge. “I’m pleased that the MA250 funding will support the Freedoms Way Heritage Association’s efforts to promote and protect our region’s rich historical legacy, offering residents and visitors alike the opportunity to engage with the landmarks that shaped our nation’s story while bolstering the local tourism and economy. So many people from the Middlesex and Worcester district played an important role in the American Revolution, so I’m grateful to the Healey-Driscoll administration for creating the Massachusetts 250 Grant Program.”

"I'm happy to see this funding to promoting our region's rich and vital history through providing a grant to Freedom's Way Heritage Association in Devens," said State Representative Dan Sena. "Grants like this are vital to ensuring our history is accessible for generations to come. As we approach the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, it only becomes more important that we invest in our history."

"North Central Massachusetts is home to a rich history, indelibly linked to the founding of our nation," said Senator John J. Cronin. "This grant will spur tourism, strengthen our local economy, and celebrate our region's contributions to the cause of American independence."

Designated by Congress in 2009, the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area spans 45 communities and 17 national historic landmarks across north-central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Many of these landmarks commemorate American Revolutionary events.
