Senator Eldridge and Representative Hogan Announce $500,000 Community One Stop for Growth grant awarded to Maynard

Grant supports Maynard Powdermill Road Pump Station for water

MAYNARD, MA –  Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough) and Representative Kate Hogan (D-Stow) are pleased to announce that the town of Maynard has been awarded a $500,000 MassWorks grant through the Community One Stop for Growth program. This funding will support essential upgrades to the Powdermill Road Pump Station (PMPS), a vital component of Maynard’s water and sewer infrastructure, ensuring safe and reliable service for the community.

The Powdermill Road Pump Station has exceeded its original life expectancy, with a typical pump station design life of 50 years and pump equipment lasting around 20 years. The grant will fund critical improvements to both the pump station and its associated force main, a key asset in Maynard’s sewer system. The force main is responsible for transporting nearly 70% of the town’s sewage from PMPS to the wastewater treatment plant, underscoring the importance of these upgrades to Maynard’s wastewater management. This grant builds on previous funding awarded in 2022, advancing the town’s progress toward a sustainable and modern water infrastructure system.

“As a longtime advocate for infrastructure investments in Maynard, I am very happy that Maynard has secured a $500,000 MassWorks grant to upgrade the Powdermill Road Pump Station. This grant helps carry out the vision of the Maynard - Acton Powdermill Road Corridor plan prepared by MAPC, and is a major step towards improving Maynard’s water infrastructure needs, allowing for more housing and commercial development in town,” said Senator Eldridge. “I am grateful to the Healey-Driscoll Administration and Economic Development Secretary Yvonne Hao for their continued support of critical infrastructure projects across the Commonwealth.”

"Upgrading the pump station is an important part of the Town's effort to ensure its essential resources — water, sewer, roadways - meet the current and future needs of residents and that infrastructure is in place for future development projects,” said Representative Hogan. “I'm proud to support Maynard's Town officials and leaders in this effort and am grateful to the Healey-Driscoll Administration and Secretary Hao for their backing."

The MassWorks Infrastructure Program, part of the Community One Stop for Growth initiative, is designed to support essential public infrastructure projects that drive economic development and community resilience. The Community One Stop for Growth is a streamlined application portal allowing communities to access a variety of state grant programs dedicated to community and economic development. Managed by both the HLC and the Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED), the portal funds projects that build community capacity, enhance planning and zoning, and improve infrastructure.
